Chairman’s Message

Dr Nitin R. Gokarn, IAS (Retd.)
Chairman, National Road Safety Board

“Road crashes take a heavy and largely preventable toll on our country — on families, on communities and on the economy. The creation of the National Road Safety Board reflects a national resolve to change this, and to do so systematically.

Our task is to bring the best available evidence, engineering, enforcement practice, public-health insight and technology to bear on India’s roads, and to help the Central and State Governments act on it together. Safety is not the responsibility of any one agency or road user alone; it is the outcome of a system designed to protect everyone who uses the road.

This Board is committed to working openly, drawing on Indian and international experience, and measuring our progress honestly. I invite Governments, experts, industry, civil society and citizens to join us in building a safe system for India’s roads.”
